Peyia - Excursions and trips

What to do in and around Peyia?

Peyia is a lovely and quiet resort on the hillside, very close to the most beautiful beaches of Cyprus. Our house is located in the lower part of Peyia on a very quiet road, just a few meters above sea level. Thus, it can be reached on a bike with only little effort.
The beach can be reached on foot; for purchases or excursion trips however, the car is recommended. Ample free parking is available near the beaches. Outside the warm high season, Peyia is ideal for cycling and walking or as a starting point for many excursions.

Recommended hikes (spring/autumn/winter)

Akamas Peninsula - Adonis Trail/Aphrodite Trail
The Adonis Trail (quiet, wooded loop) and Aphrodite Trail (in the footsteps of Cyprus's favourite goddess) start at the Bath of Aphrodite, near Polis, and can be hiked separately or combined. The trails offer beautiful views and some challenging paths, some climbing, which is great fun especially for children.
Adonis Trail (2.20 hrs., 7.5 km, 300 metres of ascent and descent each), Aphrodite Trail (2.30 hrs., 8.2 km; 350 metres of ascent and descent each), Smigies Trail (2.0 hrs., 3.3 km -6.6 km, 230 metres of ascent and descent each)

Akamas Peninsula - the breathtaking Avkas Gorge for the sure-footed
Hike in the Avgas Gorge (Avakas Gorge) at the beginning of the Akamas National Park, approx. 10 km away. The hike can be organised as a challenging but short walk into the gorge and back the same way, about 4 km. But it can also be organised as a beautiful day trip through the gorge and back in a wide curve (5.00 hrs., approx. 16 km, 325 metres of ascent and descent each).

The cliffs of Pissouri and Cape Aspro- beautiful views at lofty heights
Challenging beautiful hike along the cliffs of Pissouri, which is considered the most impressive coastal hike in Cyprus. Starting point is Pissouri Beach, which is situated between Paphos and Limassol (3.00 hrs, 3.0 km, 260 m ascent and descent).

Walks around Peyia (all year round)

Seacaves
Walks at the sea caves, right near us between Coral Bay and Agios Georgios.
Picture
Municipality park in Peyia
Small walk that starts just a few minutes from us, at the junction with the road to Paphos at the Municipality park, and leads up the rocky hill on pretty paths.
Picture
Paphos, tombs of the kings, lighthouse
Whether it's a stroll along the waterfront, a walk along the hotel beaches, the lighthouse trail, a visit to the citadel or a tour of the "Tombs of the kings" - Paphos is worth a few excursions.
Picture
Walk to Paphos Lighthouse
This short walk starts at the Venus Beach Hotel, just outside Paphos, and follows a beautiful promenade along the shore to the lighthouse and on and on. Depending on your mood, a detour to the Paphos Shopping Mall is a good idea. If there is not enough time, a bus can be taken back to the Venus Beach Hotel car park.

Favourite beaches

Coral Bay - the most popular beach in Coral Bay and Peyia
Bathing and sunbathing at Coral Bay (free parking on the beach, toilets, showers and changing rooms available).
Picture
Coralia beach - the little sister of Coral Bay
Bathing at the neighbouring beach of Coral Bay. The beach is a little stonier, smaller, but also quieter (free parking on the beach, toilets, showers and changing rooms available).
Picture
Agios Georgios - harbour, small bathing port and snorkelling paradise, swimming with turtles
Snorkelling and swimming in the harbour of Agios Georgios. There is little sunbathing space, the water access is stony, but the underwater world offers a lot for snorkellers. In this little harbour, we see regularly turles.
Picture
Lara beach and Turtle beach - the secluded beaches on the Akamas Peninsula
Lara beach is a rocky beach on the Akamas Peninsula. The drive there is manageable by car, but the roads are not asphalted. Behind Lara beach is a second, more attractive beach, also called Lara beach or Turtle beach. Here you can expect sandy beaches, crystal clear water, few people and, in August, turtle hatching. The signs are a little misleading, so here is a little guide.

The beaches of Paphos - City
The beaches stretch from the promenade along the hotels. In front of each hotel is a small bathing bay, which is also accessible to all other guests. Free parking spaces are easy to find.

Going out - Food and drink

VIKLARI - the last castle
Near the Avakas Gorge on the Akamas Peninsula. This is a rustic restaurant, suitable for lunch. Simple food (grilled meat, salad, potato wedges), great view, a bit windy in spring and autumn.
